Module A · for the own-store door
Shopify's pricing page lists the plan, the themes, and the apps. It does not list the only line that decides whether a new store lives: what your first 100 visitors cost. A storefront is not a marketplace — Shopify has no shoppers to send you. Run your numbers before you rent the shop.
Benchmarks are planning ranges from published ad-platform reporting, checked October 2026 — not quotes. Your creative and product move real click prices a lot. That is exactly why the test budget matters.
Shopify earns $39 a month from every open store, busy or empty — and pays affiliates up to $150 for each beginner they deliver. A tool that tells the no-audience beginner "not yet" taxes the entire machine. The zero-traffic fact does appear on their ecosystem's pages — as a throwaway FAQ line, never as a number with your budget in it.
The store-failure story is already written by agencies — and it ends by selling agency services. "Post-launch silence is the norm" is their headline and their pitch in the same breath. Here it is neither: it is an input. Your audience and budget go in; a verdict comes out; nobody's services wait at the bottom.
Sell first where the shoppers already are — an Etsy door or the resale apps — build the audience and the reviews there, then open your store when you can feed it. Stores are a great second door. They are a punishing first one. The Door Finder scores all seven doors against your starting point at once.
The First Door Kit's budget sheet separates the rent from the traffic, month by month, so the store's real cost never hides inside a promo month — plus the launch checklist for whichever door the numbers pick.

No. Shopify is a storefront: software for your shop, with no shopper marketplace attached. Marketplaces (Etsy, eBay, Amazon) are the opposite trade — they bring the shoppers and charge fees and rules for the privilege.
At the usual 1–2% conversion for a new store, plan on 50–100 visitors per sale on average. That is why this checker prices visitors, not stores: the store is $39; the visitors are the budget.
You can — it is the slowest honest channel, and it is an audience-building project measured in months. If your audience today is zero, your first 100 visitors from posts alone are a season away. That is a fine plan if you know it going in. It is a bad surprise if you budgeted for week one.
Then this door may genuinely be yours — run the checker with your real numbers. An audience you can reach for free is the one asset that turns the own-store math from rent-plus-hope into a business.
